Pakistan’s security forces successfully foiled multiple infiltration attempts by terrorists and Afghan Taliban fighters along the Pak-Afghan border, inflicting significant losses on hostile elements operating from Afghan territor
The incidents occurred between the night of December 27 and the morning of December 28 in Kurram and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to reports, a group of 20 to 25 terrorists attempted to infiltrate into Pakistan using Afghan Taliban-controlled border posts as cover. Swift action by Pakistani forces thwarted the attempt, forcing the group to retreat.
Escalation and Retaliation
A second infiltration attempt was made on the morning of December 28, again using Afghan Taliban positions as support. When this was also thwarted, the attackers resorted to unprovoked heavy weapons fire targeting Pakistani border posts.
In a decisive counterattack, Pakistani forces retaliated with full force, neutralizing over 15 terrorists and Afghan Taliban fighters and injuring several others. This robust response forced the Afghan Taliban to abandon six border posts and retreat, leaving their positions behind. The death toll on the Afghan side is expected to rise further.
Minimal Pakistani Losses
Despite the intensity of the clashes, no fatalities were reported among Pakistani security personnel, though three soldiers sustained injuries.
Pakistan’s Firm Stance
Sources emphasized that Pakistan has repeatedly urged the interim Afghan government to prevent its territory from being used for anti-Pakistan activities. However, the Afghan Taliban allegedly continue to support such elements instead of suppressing them, allowing terrorists to operate freely within Afghanistan and target Pakistan.
The Pakistani military reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, remaining vigilant against any aggression.
