Pakistan Railways jacked up fares as operations resume from Karachi to Peshawar

With the resumption of train services across the country that had been halted due to devastating floods, Pakistan Railways (PR) increased fares on trains such as the Khyber Mail, Karakoram Express, and Rehman Baba Express, according to Geo News on Sunday.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Railways, Khyber Mail’s AC Sleeper class fare for Karachi-Peshawar has been raised to Rs11,000, AC Business class to Rs6,200, and AC Standard class to Rs5,700.

According to the notification, the economy class fare on the Karakoram Express for the Karachi-Lahore route has been increased to Rs3,000. The AC sleeper fare on the Karachi Express has also been raised to Rs9,000, the AC business fare to Rs5,700, the AC standard fare to Rs4,150, and the economy fare to Rs3,000.

The AC business class fare on Rehman Baba Express has been increased to Rs7,000, the AC standard fare to Rs5,000, and the economy class fare to Rs3,000. Pakistan Business Express’s AC business class fare has been increased to Rs7,000.

Pakistan Railways’ Karachi-Lahore service would be restored on October 5.

Pakistan Railways has decided to resume passenger trains to Karachi on October 2, more than a month after they were suspended on August 26 due to super floods in Sindh province.

The Department of Railways’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) told the National Assembly’s Railway Committee that the department has suffered significant infrastructure damage as a result of the country’s devastating floods.
