KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: An explosion caused by a gas leak at Lasbela Chowk in Karachi injured at least nine people and caused damage to several shops.
The incident took place on a drain upon which the shops were constructed, as confirmed by both officials and eyewitnesses.
Footage from the scene showed concerned individuals gathered around, while rescue workers assessed the affected area. The explosion led residents of a nearby building to evacuate quickly.
Rescue 1122 officials reported that the explosion occurred due to the accumulation of gas in the vicinity.
The force of the blast caused various items from the shops to fall into the drain.
However, Lasbela Chowk is a crucial roundabout that connects the old and new sections of the city. In response to the incident, a substantial number of rescue workers promptly arrived at the scene.
Notably, the Edhi Foundation’s office was located close to the blast site.
The injured victims were taken to the Civil Hospital. Those injured included Naseeruddin (23), Usman (20), Khurram (22), Laal Muhammad (35), Muhammad Ijaz (24), Hafeez (23), Mansoor Ali (40), and Arif (38).
As authorities investigate the cause of the explosion, they are actively working to ensure the safety of the affected area and its residents.
