The murdered Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif was allegedly a collaborator of Kenyan investigative journalist John Allan Namu, but Namu has denied this.
Unconfirmed allegations that Mr. Sharif was in Kenya to shoot a significant worldwide corruption exposé with the award-winning Kenyan journalist and co-founder of the independent media outlet Africa uncensored, began to circulate after the news of his death shocked the world.
Mr. Namu used Twitter to express his condolences to Mr. Sharif’s family and to clarify any misunderstandings about their alleged partnership.
Namu had also been compelled to clarify a previous tweet that had linked the two after they shared a screen in a documentary.
Twitter user Mir_shavkat tweeted “If anyone has any doubt why he went to Kenya , let me elucidate he was there for to expose the corrupt, corruption of PDM, BAJWA. He was working on the project behind the close doors with Kenya based journalist @johnallannamu…”
It was at this point that Mr Namu replied “This is incorrect.”
Additionally, after the two shared a screen in a documentary, Namu was compelled to correct an earlier tweet that had implied otherwise.
The tweet stated: “Arshad Sharif was producing “Behind Closed Doors,” a shocking investigative film on corruption. This may help to explain why #ArshadSharif may have been to #Kenya. The documentary featured Kenyan investigative reporter @johnallannamu.”
Mr. Namu responded as follows: “I’m sad to learn about Arshad’s passing. He and I were not acquainted or coworkers even though I was interviewed for the film.”
