ISLAMABAD: PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has achieved a significant milestone in finalizing the candidate’s name for the caretaker prime minister’s appointment.
Through a series of consultations, he engaged with prominent political figures, including Asif Ali Zardari and Fazlur Rehman, to discuss the matter. Recently, Nawaz Sharif also consulted with his younger brother and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on this crucial issue.
After the consultations, Nawaz Sharif forwarded three names to PM Shahbaz Sharif. However, he instructed that the selected name should remain undisclosed until a meeting with the opposition leaders.
The next step involves Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s meeting with the opposition leader within the next 36 hours. If a consensus is reached during this meeting, the announcement about the caretaker prime minister will be made accordingly.
If consensus proves difficult to achieve, the proposed names will be forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for further process.
It is important to note that even after the dissolution of the National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif will continue to serve as the prime minister in the absence of a consensus on the caretaker prime minister. His tenure will persist until the ECP officially announces the candidate for this crucial interim position.
