Nationwide Crackdown Launched on Illegal Sale of Pre-Activated Foreign SIM Cards

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing have initiated a nationwide crackdown on the illegal sale of pre-activated foreign SIM cards, aimed at curbing telecom fraud and ensuring national security.

Coordinated raids were conducted in several cities, including Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot, targeting individuals and businesses involved in the unauthorized distribution of foreign SIM cards. These SIM cards, often used for fraudulent and unverified communications, were seized during the operations, leading to multiple arrests.

Both PTA and FIA stressed the serious security risks posed by the sale of such SIMs, which enable anonymous, untraceable communications, and vowed to continue taking strict action against violators.
