MUZAFFARGARH: The District Police Officer Hasnain Haider has suspended an investigation officer following allegations of police brutality against a young man in Bet Mirhazar Khan, located 60 kilometers from Muzaffargarh city.
The incident involves claims that the police tortured a young man, Shahzad, over accusations of stealing a solar panel owned by Shahid Leghari, the brother of Station House Officer (SHO) Zahid Laghari.
Parveen Mai, the complainant, reported that her husband, Gulam Hussain, and her son, Shahzad, were illegally arrested and subjected to severe violence on July 31.
According to the FIR, Shahzad and his father were detained on charges related to the alleged theft. During their custody, Shahzad was reportedly tortured so badly that he lost one of his legs.
When Shahzad was taken to the hospital for treatment, the medical staff refused to provide care due to the absence of a police docket, which had not been issued. This refusal worsened Shahzad’s condition.
Family members allege that police in Bet Mirhazar Khan tortured Shahzad in the presence of SHO Laghari’s brother to meet his demands. They also claim that the police have threatened them with further legal action.
Parveen Mai has accused SHO Hamza Khan of registering false cases on behalf of SHO Laghari and claimed that her family was unjustly charged and tortured.
In response, DPO Haider has suspended investigation officer Ramzan Madni and initiated a departmental inquiry against SHO Hamza Khan. He has assigned the Headquarters DSP to investigate the case and has called both parties for a thorough review.
DPO Haider assured that appropriate action would be taken against those found responsible. A police spokesperson confirmed that Shahzad is receiving treatment at a public hospital and is in recovery.
