Islamabad: Addressing a lawyers’ convention in Lahore, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed his respect for politicians despite ideological differences. He highlighted the need to underscore the importance of the state, expressing concern over the perceived insecurity of the country’s constitution.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized the sacrifices made by his party for the cause of democracy, stating, “We have given many great sacrifices for the sake of democracy.” He questioned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) about the alleged rigging in the 2018 general elections compared to the recently held elections.
The JUI-F leader reiterated the party’s narrative on rigging, asserting that they believe rigging occurred in both the 2018 and 2024 elections. He attributed the reluctance to accept the results of allegedly rigged elections to the party’s upbringing.
In a related development, JUI-F leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri recently stated that the party is adamant about not becoming part of the coalition government. He mentioned that even Nawaz Sharif has not asked JUI-F to change its narrative, and the final decision on talks with the PML-N will be made following consultations.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks underscore the party’s commitment to its principles and its stance on electoral integrity. The JUI-F continues to play a significant role in shaping the political landscape in Pakistan.
