Long live democracy, long live Parliament, says Maryam in response to new laws passed by Parliament

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has celebrated the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, calling it a historic milestone for democracy and the supremacy of Parliament.

In her statement after the approval, she emphasized the importance of the amendment in restoring Parliament’s authority and strengthening the judicial system.

“Long live democracy, long live Parliament,” she proclaimed, congratulating the nation on this significant achievement.

Maryam highlighted that the 26th amendment sends a “clear message for the people to raise their voices” and represents a crucial reform aimed at ensuring justice is not only delivered but also perceived to be timely and effective.

The amendment is essential for reinforcing Parliament’s supremacy and embodies a broader initiative to position Pakistan as an “exemplary democracy” on the global stage.

She praised the introduction of reforms that she believes will usher in a new era for the judicial system, stating, “With this amendment, justice will be delivered efficiently.”

Maryam noted that public access to justice has been improved and that the independence of the judiciary has been fortified. She welcomed the removal of the interest clause as a significant step forward in enhancing judicial integrity.

Expressing confidence in the reforms, Maryam Nawaz asserted that they would lead to a stronger and more equitable democratic system in Pakistan, restoring dignity to Parliament while ensuring justice for all citizens.

The 26th Constitutional Amendment, which includes extensive judicial and environmental reforms, has garnered widespread support. Maryam believes it will lay a solid foundation for future democratic growth, promoting a more robust legal framework in the country.
