Five of the nine people were slain in a recent operation by security personnel in Ziarat, according to Balochistan’s adviser on home and provincial disaster management authority Mir Ziaullah Langove. He did say that their identities appeared on a missing persons list compiled by the Voice of Baloch Missing Persons group.
Last week’s operation was conducted near Ziarat to track down and murder the people responsible for the deaths of Lt. Col. Laiq Baig Mirza and his cousin.
Mr. Langove’s comments come in the wake of allegations by the BNP-Mengal, the National Party, and some Baloch nationalist parties that five’militants’ slain in the operation were actually missing individuals who had vanished after purportedly being taken up by security officials. These groups have voiced their concern and asked for a probe into the murders.
Mr. Langove, at a press conference here, stated that on July 12 the banned BLA militants in Ziarat kidnapped Lt. Col. Laiq and his cousin Umar Javed, killing both of them. The consultant characterized the behavior as contrary to Baloch and Islamic norms.
An intelligence officer had been killed in action, he said. Five of the nine terrorists had been found, he added, after their names turned up on a list of missing people.
Many of the missing were actively fighting against the state, he added, citing the fact that attackers of the Karachi Stock Exchange and those responsible for the attacks in Nushki and Panjgur were among the missing.
