Lahore to Launch Modern Tram Service: All You Need to Know

Modern Tram Service

The Punjab government has decided to introduce a tram service in Lahore, aiming to facilitate the city’s residents and enhance its aesthetic appeal.

This significant development was approved during a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters.

Upon her arrival, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was greeted by DG LDA Tahir Farooq. The meeting saw the presence of several high-profile attendees, including senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, special assistant on political affairs Zeeshan Malik, the chief secretary, the principal secretary, and other relevant authorities.

DG LDA Tahir Farooq provided an extensive briefing to the chief minister about the department’s ongoing work, major projects, and overall performance.

During this session, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved a comprehensive project focused on the re-modeling and beautification of MM Alam Road.

A key feature of this project is the introduction of a tram service in the Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road areas. Additionally, the project includes plans to revamp the adjacent areas to create a more cohesive and attractive urban environment.

The chief minister also greenlit a plan to establish a signal-free corridor from Kareem Block to the Motorway, aiming to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in these areas.

The proposed Lahore tram service will operate in prominent areas such as Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road, significantly enhancing public transportation options for residents and visitors alike.

While the project has received official approval, the government has not yet announced a specific launch date for the tram service.

However, the Maryam Nawaz-led administration is known for its commitment to the rapid completion of infrastructure projects, suggesting that the launch may occur soon.

As for the tram service ticket pricing, the administration plans to announce the fare structure following the project’s launch.

This move is part of a broader effort to ensure that the tram service is accessible and affordable for all segments of the population.

In summary, the introduction of the tram service in Lahore represents a major step forward in the city’s transportation infrastructure.

With approval from the highest levels of provincial leadership and a clear plan for execution, the project promises to bring significant benefits to the city’s residents, improving both mobility and urban aesthetics.
