According to the Air Quality Index, Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, is Pakistan’s most polluted city.
Lahore ranked first on the list of the most polluted cities in Pakistan, according to data on air pollution issued by the US Air Quality Index, with a particle matter (PM) rating of 241.
Faisalabad and Karachi, which were ranked second and third, respectively, in terms of pollution levels.
According to the criteria established by the Air Quality Index, a city is considered “unhealthy” if the PM value is between 151 and 200. A number between 201 and 300 is classified as “very unhealthy,” while anything over 301 is classified as “dangerous.”
Experts claim that the air is heavier in the winter than it is in the summer, which causes toxic particles in the atmosphere to migrate downhill and pollute the atmosphere. A layer of contaminated particles, including significant volumes of smoke and carbon, as a result, covers a metropolis.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Lahore High Court (LHC) on October 7 ordered the authorities concerned to impose a smog emergency in Punjab ahead of the winter season.
