Khawaja Asif believes Article 6 will not be initiated against PTI leaders, but the defence minister warns that PTI will have to pay a price for its actions. Asif slams Imran Khan and says he committed several wrongs. According to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, initiating action against Imran Khan and others under Article 6 of the Constitution is not a strategy of the coalition federal government, but rather, part of the judgement handed down by the Supreme Court.
In an ancillary note to the Supreme Court’s ruling on Qasim Suri’s no-trust vote, Justice Mazahar Alam Khan Miankhel noted that President Arif Alvi, then-Prime Minister Imran Khan, then-National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, ex-Deputy Speaker Suri, and ex-Law Minister Fawad Chaudhry had exceeded their authority, and it was up to the legislature to decide whether to file a reference under Article 6.
It is up to lawmakers to decide whether or not these actions constitute high treason, as noted by Justice Miankhel: “Whether these activities attract Article 6 of the Constitution (high treason) is likewise left up to be determined by the parliamentarians.”
