LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: The Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) announced the arrest of 13 alleged terrorists, including “three key Daesh commanders,” through an intelligence-based operation conducted in various cities of the province.
According to CTD today, the apprehended suspects were taken into custody from Lahore, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Chinot, Qasor, Multan, and Mandi Bahauddin. The statement revealed that these individuals had intended to carry out acts of terrorism.
Moreover, explosives, detonators, improvised explosive devices, and cash were also seized from the arrested suspects, the statement further mentioned. Cases have been registered against them, and ongoing investigations are being conducted.
In addition, the CTD reported that during 339 combing operations this week, 34 more suspects were detained, and 4,113 individuals were questioned.
However, the statement concluded by highlighting the CTD’s commitment to fostering a safer environment in Punjab and the authorities’ resolute determination to eradicate the menace of terrorism.
Additionally, the preceding week, the Punjab CTD had reported the arrest of 21 “terrorists,” including militants associated with the proscribed Daesh and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) groups.
Furthermore, during the month of July, the Punjab CTD carried out Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) across various parts of the province. These operations resulted in the apprehension of 17 militants linked to banned militant organizations. A CTD spokesperson revealed that a total of 132 IBOs were executed in Punjab, with a specific focus on thwarting potential terrorist activities by defunct groups, especially those targeting Chinese nationals and places of worship during the Muharram period.
