Young Innovators: Muhammad Hasnain, Karachi’s 11-Year-Old Robotics Genius

Muhammad Hasnain, an 11-year-old from Karachi, has captured national attention with his impressive creation: an AI assistant robot named “Muhammad Ali.” This innovative project showcases Hasnain’s remarkable talent and passion for technology.

The robot, activated by voice commands, reflects Hasnain’s ingenuity. His journey into robotics began two years ago at the Imam Hussain Institute in Scheme 33, Karachi. After exploring game development and robotics, Hasnain presented his AI assistant as his final project for the summer.

Explaining his interest in robotics, Hasnain shared, “I first got interested in robotics two years ago and was fascinated. I took a beginner’s course then and decided to continue my training this year. This AI assistant was my summer course final project.”

During a demonstration, Hasnain showcased the robot’s functionality. “It listens and processes commands, then responds like a human. It’s connected to my laptop, and once I call out ‘Muhammad Ali,’ it activates, processes commands, and performs tasks,” Hasnain explained. When asked to provide a recipe for “chai” (tea), the robot promptly delivered a detailed response, which amused Hasnain. “He’s Pakistani, so of course he knows how much we love chai,” he joked.

Hasnain elaborated on how Muhammad Ali assists users: “The robot functions as a versatile assistant. It can open websites, create lists, help with household chores, and even switch electricity to solar power based on commands. Its abilities depend on the programming I’ve done.”

Currently, the robot’s head is under construction with a 3D printer, and Hasnain is handling the entire project independently, without external help. His skills are so advanced that even university students seek his assistance with their projects.

Shakeel Abbas from the Imam Hussain Institute highlighted the commitment of young people like Hasnain to modern technology. Hasnain aspires to a career in robotics and game development, embodying the promise of a brighter future for Pakistan.

In a time when many Pakistanis are moving abroad, Hasnain’s story serves as a reminder of the value in nurturing and investing in our youth. As other nations celebrate their young innovators, it’s crucial that we recognize and support our own rising stars before the world takes notice.
