Karachi Zoo’s Final Bengal Tigress Passes Away

The Karachi Zoo has announced the passing of its last Bengal tigress, who died after a long struggle with health complications.

The elderly tigress, who had been experiencing declining health for several months, succumbed to her illness on Thursday. Her death leaves the zoo with a reduced feline population, consisting of only two lionesses, one lion, and a pair of lions.

The tigress, the oldest animal at the zoo, had been isolated for some time following the deaths of previous Bengal tigers. This solitary existence came after the loss of an imported pair and a male tiger from Lahore.

Despite receiving medical care, the tigress’s condition worsened in recent weeks, and unfortunately, she did not recover.

In the past, the zoo had several pairs of Bengal tigers, but no new births have been recorded in decades. The zoo’s lion population, however, has seen some successful births, although many cubs did not survive.

Current officials are hopeful that the recent lion cubs born at the zoo will thrive.

With the passing of the Bengal tigress, the zoo’s focus remains on the welfare of its remaining big cats and the potential for future growth in their populations.

The administration is committed to the well-being of the current animals and is optimistic about the future of the lion cubs.
