KARACHI — The Karachi police have officially dropped the case against Salman Farooqui, who was previously booked in an alleged youth assault incident that took place in the Ittehad Commercial area of Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The case had sparked widespread attention after a video of the altercation went viral on social media last month.
During a hearing at the South Judicial Magistrate’s court, Karachi police informed the judge that all charges against Salman Farooqui had been withdrawn. The Gizri Police submitted a closure report, citing the complainant’s unwillingness to pursue legal action.
According to the police report, Dheeraj alias Dhanraj, the young man who had initially lodged the complaint, submitted a written statement declaring that neither he nor his sister faced any misconduct from Farooqui. As a result, all charges — including criminal intimidation and threats — were dropped.
The court formally recorded the police’s submission and adjourned the matter, effectively closing the case.
Last month, Farooqui was arrested after video footage emerged showing him assaulting a motorcyclist — reportedly Dheeraj — following a minor road collision on Khayaban-e-Ittehad. The video, which was widely circulated online, showed Farooqui physically attacking the victim while his sisters pleaded for the assault to stop.
The incident provoked public outrage, leading the police to file a case against Farooqui and another individual, Owais Hashmi. However, with the victim now retracting his allegations and confirming no wrongdoing occurred, the case has been formally wrapped up.
