BUSINESSMAN Waqar Ahmed has told investigators that Karachi Kings CEO Tariq Wasi asked him to sponsor Arshad Sharif’s visit to Kenya.
The revelation came when Pakistani investigators — FIA director Athar Wahid and Intelligence Bureau (IB) deputy director general Omar Shahid Hamid — met Waqar Ahmed and his brother Khurram Ahmed, who were driving the car when Arshad Sharif was hit by bullets. Waqar Ahmed told the investigators that Tariq Wasi had not only asked him to arrange a sponsorship letter for Arshad Sharif from Dubai to Kenya but also asked him to host him throughout his stay in Kenya and facilitate him in every possible way.
According to a source, Waqar Ahmed testified to the investigation team that Tariq Wasi kept in touch with him frequently and inquired about Arshad Sharif’s welfare, including his daily activities. Waqar Ahmed informed detectives at his apartment, “I arranged for Arshad Sharif’s stay at my penthouse on the request of Tariq Wasi. Waqar Ahmed revealed that he prepared sponsorship for Arshad Sharif because Karachi Kings CEO Tariq Wasi had urged him to do so. Waqar Ahmed added that he had no interest in inviting Arshad to Kenya otherwise. But before extending the invitation to Arshad Sharif, he acknowledged that they had already met.
After Arshad Sharif was killed by gunfire, Waqar Ahmed claimed to the investigators that he called Tariq Wasi right away. Salman Iqbal, the owner of ARY, allegedly called him after he had called Tariq Wasi and inquired about Arshad Sharif’s untimely passing. Tariq Wasi received inquiries from Geo News, but he didn’t respond.
In an international first, Geo News discovered on Wednesday that the entry visa for murdered journalist Arshad Sharif was sponsored, but he did not get it upon arrival. According to Geo News, Waqar Ahmed, a Nairobi-based real estate entrepreneur and Arshad Sharif’s chauffeur on the terrible night of October 23, 2022, when Arshad Sharif was shot and killed by Kenyan police in a remote place, issued the sponsorship letter for Arshad Sharif to travel to that country.
