The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced plans to stage a protest in the federal capital against Israeli atrocities in Gaza, scheduled for Sunday, March 10. Addressing the press in Islamabad, JI Emir Sirajul Haq declared the protest, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the plight of Palestinians and condemning the silence of the international community. Haq highlighted the staggering number of Palestinian casualties and stressed the need for immediate action to support their cause.
In addition to the protest, Haq underscored the importance of robust democracy in Pakistan during a separate press conference in Lahore. He criticized the current democratic system, expressing concerns about decisions being made before elections and the lack of transparency in the electoral process. Haq pointed out the delay in election results and questioned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) response to the matter.
Furthermore, Haq criticized the stance of political opponents, particularly mentioning Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks regarding the country’s financial situation and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He labeled the recent elections as fraudulent, alleging rigging similar to previous electoral processes.
The JI’s announcements reflect its commitment to addressing humanitarian crises and advocating for democratic transparency in Pakistan. The planned protest signifies the party’s solidarity with the oppressed and marginalized communities, both locally and internationally, while its call for robust democracy underscores the need for accountable governance and fair electoral practices.
