Interim PM Kakar orders authorities to make A plan for reduction in High Electricity bills within 48 hours

ISLAMABAD: Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has directed relevant authorities to formulate “concrete steps” to address the issue of high electricity bills. He instructed that they present the plan to him within the next 48 hours. This decision was made during an emergency meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Islamabad, which was convened in response to widespread protests by citizens against the high electricity bills.

The interim prime minister was provided with a detailed briefing on the high electricity bills for the month of July during the meeting. Key officials including the Interim Finance Minister, the caretaker Commerce Minister, the Interim Information Minister, and other relevant figures attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Kakar emphasized the importance of implementing measures that will not burden the national exchequer and will facilitate consumers. He expressed his commitment to representing the common people. He stated that he would take steps to reduce electricity consumption at the Prime Minister’s House and the Pak Secretariat, even if it requires turning off the air conditioning in his own room.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Kakar requested a roadmap from electricity distribution companies to address electricity theft. He also directed relevant authorities to submit short-, medium-, and long-term plans for reforms in the power sector. He affirmed that the interim government would strive to provide relief to the people within its mandate.
