Imran Khan’s approval is mandatory for the implementation of PTI core committee decisions: Naeem Haider Panjotha

ISLAMABAD: Naeem Haider Panjotha, the legal counsel of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Chairman Imran Khan, reveals that the PTI chief’s approval is mandatory for decisions made by the party’s core committee.

Panjotha disclosed this information and conveyed the message of the imprisoned former prime minister, who is currently in Attock jail due to his conviction in the Toshakhana case by an Islamabad trial court, resulting in a three-year prison term.

Khan’s lawyer said that the PTI chairman has mandated that all core committee decisions must be communicated through his legal representatives. He retains the final authority to approve these decisions as the chairman.

A day prior, the PTI’s core committee convened and issued a statement condemning Khan’s incarceration in an “extremely shameful and inhumane environment.”

“The most respected leader of the nation, the leader of Pakistan’s largest party, and the former prime minister are being imprisoned in an agonizing, inhumane, and perilous environment in terms of health and safety,” the statement conveyed.

insects and flies in khan’s cell

Meanwhile, Imran Khan, the PTI chairman, met his lawyer in Attock jail earlier on Monday, expressing concerns about the prison environment. He mentioned issues such as flies infesting his cell during the day and insects at night.

Khan conveyed to his lawyer that he would endure a life sentence in jail if necessary.

However, Panjutha reported a third attack on the PTI chief’s residence and an attempted break-in into Bushra Bibi’s room. He highlighted that the police did not present an arrest warrant before apprehending Khan.

Imran Khan, the PTI chief, was arrested from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore after being found guilty in the Toshakhana case. The accusations involved misusing his 2018 to 2022 premiership to purchase and sell gifts in state possession, which were received during foreign visits and valued at more than Rs140 million ($635,000).

Khan vehemently denies the allegations against him.

“Charges of misdeclaration of assets have been substantiated against the PTI chairman,” stated Additional and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar in his verdict.

Judge Dilawar sentenced the PTI chief to three years in prison, issuing arrest warrants and a fine of Rs100,000.

The judge also dismissed Khan’s petition contesting the maintainability of the case.

The party of the former prime minister, ousted from office after a no-confidence motion in April 2022, has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the trial court’s order. They seek to nullify Judge Dilawar’s verdict.

The PTI has also approached the Islamabad High Court, Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, requesting the transfer of Khan from Attock jail to Adiala jail.
