Imran Khan ordered Senators not to attend the joint session of parliament today

Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, gave his party members the order not to attend today’s joint session of parliament (Thursday).

The parliament’s joint session will be presided over by President Arif Alvi. Imran Khan has requested that the PTI skip the meeting, despite the fact that President Alvi is a senior member of the party.

The members of PTI’s parliamentary party in the senate have been made aware of the party chief’s choice.

Due to concerns from the coalition government, President Alvi’s address to the joint session was postponed from August 14 to August 15. The combined session has been scheduled today following a meeting between President Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during which all issues were resolved.

If the national legislature is not dissolved ahead of schedule, this will be the parliamentary year with the fewest days ever at 310.

Clause three of Article 56 of the Constitution mandates that the president address the legislature following each general election and the opening of each parliamentary year to explain the “causes of its summons.”
