Imran Khan Faces Second Round of Interrogation in September 28 Violent Protest Case

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has entered the second phase of interrogation, as the Rawalpindi police continue questioning him in connection with the violent protest that took place on September 28. He was arrested in the case registered at the New Town police station, which alleges his involvement in instigating violence during the demonstration.

According to reports, Superintendent Police (SP) Rawal Raja Haseeb, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Legal Raja Inayat, and Inspector Rashid Kayani conducted the interrogation at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Saturday, marking the third day of Khan’s physical remand. The investigative team had prepared over 15 questions based on the testimonies of 23 suspects already in police custody following their appearance in court.

Sources reveal that the investigators have obtained social media posts, speeches from PTI leaders, and records of individuals who visited Imran Khan in prison. Additionally, relevant surveillance footage has been gathered to support the case.

The interrogation reportedly centered around allegations that Khan called for action on September 28, which led to violent protests in Rawalpindi. He is accused of instructing PTI’s local leadership, including Seemabia Tahir, to organize unlawful demonstrations, in violation of Section 144. The police claim that Khan incited party workers to protest, resulting in the violence.

The interrogation lasted for about an hour, after which the investigative team left. Khan’s cell in Adiala Jail has been designated as a temporary extension of the New Town police station, with its security now under the Rawalpindi police’s control.

Imran Khan was arrested on the night of November 20-21 in connection with the New Town police station case. Following his arrest, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi granted police a five-day physical remand to question him further at Adiala Jail.
