ISLAMABAD: A day after implementing a significant increase in gas prices, the caretaker government announced relief measures for people affected by inflation by maintaining the price of petrol at Rs283.38 per litre.

The Ministry of Finance issued a notification stating that the prices of petrol and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) would remain unchanged at Rs283.38 and Rs303.18 per litre, respectively, until November 15.
Additionally, the government reduced the prices of kerosene oil by Rs3.82 per litre and light diesel oil by Rs3.40 per litre for the next two weeks. As a result, the new prices for these products are Rs211.03 per litre for kerosene oil and Rs189.46 per litre for light diesel oil.
It’s worth noting that the interim government is not imposing any general sales tax (GST) on petroleum products, and the petroleum levy (PL) on petrol is set at Rs60 per litre.
In the previous two weeks, the government had already lowered the price of petrol by Rs40 per litre and HSD by Rs15 per litre. On a related note, the federal cabinet had approved a substantial increase in natural gas tariffs by up to 172% for various consumer categories and industries, in compliance with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) demand to address the circular debt issue in the gas sector, which amounts to Rs2.1 trillion. These new gas prices will take effect from November 1.
Furthermore, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) announced a reduction in the rates of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for November. The rate for LPG has decreased by Rs9.69 per kilogram, resulting in a reduction of Rs117.47 for domestic cylinders. As a result, an 11-kilogram cylinder will now be available at the price of Rs2962.17.
