The Pakistani government is set to make significant improvements to public convenience through proposed amendments to the country’s passport regulations.
The Ministry of Interior has submitted a detailed summary of these proposed changes to the Cabinet for review and approval.
The new amendments are designed to streamline the passport application and renewal processes.
Under the proposed changes, citizens will have the flexibility to apply for or renew their passports from any city in Pakistan, removing the previous requirement to visit specific, designated locations. This change aims to simplify the process and make it more accessible for individuals across the country.
Additionally, the amendments include provisions for passport fees to be paid at any branch of the National Bank of Pakistan. This change is expected to enhance convenience for applicants by allowing them to complete their transactions at a bank branch that is most convenient for them, rather than being restricted to certain locations.
The proposed changes also introduce a new passport format, which will be modeled after the national identity card. This new format is intended to align the passport design with the national ID card, potentially simplifying identification and streamlining administrative processes.
Once the Cabinet approves these amendments, they will be officially implemented, marking a significant step forward in improving the efficiency and accessibility of passport services in Pakistan.
The government’s move is part of a broader effort to enhance public convenience and reduce bureaucratic hurdles for citizens requiring passport services.
