Islamabad: Former finance minister and PML-N senior leader Ishaq Dar has sparked controversy with his recent comments on various issues confronting the nation.
Addressing the media at the Punjab Assembly in Lahore, Dar stron²gly criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) decision to correspond with the IMF, labeling it as “regrettable.” He condemned the PTI’s alleged pursuit of personal gains at the expense of the country’s economic well-being, deeming such actions anti-national. Dar asserted that any letter sent to the IMF by the PTI would lack legitimacy.
Dar expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in commencing the Punjab Assembly session, particularly criticizing the speaker’s focus solely on clearing the gallery rather than attending to important parliamentary responsibilities, such as administering oaths.
Highlighting a lack of punctuality in parliamentary proceedings, Dar underscored concerns regarding the delayed arrival of the speaker at the Punjab Assembly.
Regarding the delay in announcing reserved seats for the Sunni Ittehad Council, which PTI-backed independent candidates have joined, Dar suggested that the Election Commission may have legal justifications for its decision.
Discussing Pakistan’s economic challenges, Dar acknowledged the nation’s difficulties, particularly in light of recent economic downturns. He noted Pakistan’s status as the fifth-largest stock market globally but attributed economic instability to controversies such as the Dawn leaks and the Panama Papers scandal.
Despite the challenges, Dar expressed optimism about Pakistan’s ability to overcome obstacles through collective efforts. He reiterated his allegiance to Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, affirming Sharif’s pivotal role in leading the PML-N and fostering national progress.
