QUETTA: An intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Kharan led to the injury of one alleged terrorist and three security personnel, according to security officials.
The operation was launched on Friday in Killi Siapad, on the outskirts of Kharan, following intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area. As security forces closed in on the suspected hideouts, the terrorists opened fire using heavy weapons.
The security forces swiftly retaliated, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire that lasted for about an hour, during which explosions were also heard. Three security personnel were injured in the clash and were airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
A large quantity of weapons, explosives, and a motorcycle were recovered from the hideout, with officials stating that the terrorists were allegedly planning an attack.
In a related development, security sources identified the terrorist commander killed in an operation in Tank earlier this week. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces carried out an IBO on the night of December 17-18, following intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in Tank. The operation resulted in the killing of seven terrorists, including Ali Rehman, also known as Maulana Taha Swati, a wanted terrorist commander.
Rehman was reportedly a close associate of Mullah Fazlullah, the late leader of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. During the operation, one of the terrorists allegedly attempted to use two children as human shields by entering a house. However, security forces successfully rescued the children and neutralized the attacker.
The operation also led to the recovery of weapons and an explosive-laden vehicle, which the terrorists had intended to use in an attack.
