RAWALPINDI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has initiated an investigation into online loan applications following a tragic incident in Rawalpindi, where a resident took his own life after being blackmailed due to his inability to repay the loan.
In response to the widespread anger and outrage sparked by this heartbreaking event, officers from FIA Rawalpindi visited the home of the deceased individual, Muhammad Masood, who fell victim to an online loan application scam.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) spokesperson said that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted into the suicide case, promising to apprehend the individuals responsible.
The investigation was launched after a 42-year-old man named Masood took his own life following threats and blackmail from an online loan application.
According to Masood’s widow, he initially borrowed Rs22, 000 from the online loan app, but the repayment amount increased significantly when he failed to meet the deadline. In an attempt to repay the initial loan, Masood took another loan, which further escalated the amount to Rs 7,000,000.
Tragically, Masood ultimately took his own life and shared her tragic experience in an audio clip that circulated online, prompting authorities to take action.
The police have already registered an FIR against the individuals operating the online loan application who blackmailed Masood by threatening the women in his family and exposing their private information.
According to Masood’s brother, he is still receiving threats from the loan company. The family has revealed that the company has been blackmailing them by using the threat of leaking personal photos.
