ISLAMABAD: The FIA has arrested a terrorist at the Karachi airport wanted by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in terror attacks in the province.
According to the agency’s spokesperson, FIA’s Immigration Cell foiled Ehsan-ul-Haq’s attempt to flee abroad.
The arrested terrorist, identified as Ehsan-ul-Haq, is allegedly linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The KP’s Home Department had set a reward of Rs1 million for his capture. The terrorist, hailing from the Swabi district of the province, was apprehended while trying to escape.
The FIA will hand over the terrorist to the concerned authorities, marking a significant breakthrough for law enforcement agencies.
In recent months, the KP province, which shares a border with Afghanistan, has experienced a surge of terror incidents following the end of the TTP’s ceasefire with Islamabad, with other terrorist groups also increasing attacks.
According to a statistical report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), July witnessed a significant upsurge in attacks, making it the second deadliest month of 2023, with 124 fatalities and 218 injuries. The report indicated that the country witnessed 54 militant attacks during the period.
The victims of these attacks included 77 civilians and 37 security forces personnel, with 181 civilians and 36 security forces personnel sustaining injuries. Comparing the data with June, the PICSS report revealed an alarming increase in terrorist activities.
In terms of regional impact, the tribal districts of KP province experienced the highest number of militant attacks in July, with 83 people killed and 181 injured in 18 reported incidents.
Mainland KP, on the other hand, saw a slight decline in attacks and casualties, with eight deaths and 11 injuries reported in 15 incidents, compared to nine deaths and 17 injuries in June 2023’s 17 incidents.
