Following a recommendation from the Ministry of Commerce, the Federal Cabinet has granted approval for the transit and transfer of vehicle spare parts and new tires designated for use by the Afghanistan Country Office under the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) from Karachi Port to Kabul, Afghanistan.
A press release issued today announced that the cabinet endorsed this proposal during its convened session.
The Cabinet was apprised that such imports and their subsequent transfer to Afghanistan are typically restricted to curb smuggling. However, the exemption is made under the auspices of the UNDP, with the intended usage of spare parts and tires designated solely for United Nations purposes, not for commercial endeavors. The Federal Cabinet ratified the decisions adopted during the meetings of the Economic Coordination Committee held on February 07, 2024, and February 14, 2024.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar chaired the meeting.
