Friday was the third day of the protest by farmers in Islamabad who have assembled under the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad banner.
The farmers are requesting the reinstatement of the original Rs. 5.3 per unit tubewell power pricing as well as the elimination of all levies and adjustments.
As the farmers attempted to march in protest in the direction of D-Chowk, the administration dispatched large contingents of police. The farmers who were protesting were engaged in numerous rounds of negotiations without success.
The demonstrators called for a halt to fertilizer black marketing and a decrease in the urea rate. Additionally, they urged that agriculture be accorded industry status.
The Kissan Ittehad has threatened to stage a sit-in at D-Chowk if its demands are not met and have vowed to continue the protest till they are.
Farmers who had been prevented from demonstrating in front of the Parliament House earlier held a sit-in at Blue Area in Islamabad under the leadership of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad.
The local government requested that the Kissan Ittehad rally hold a sit-in at F-9 Park as soon as it arrived in Faizabad. However, the demonstrators persisted in moving in the direction of Parliament House, and later blocked Blue Area in response to the police’ reluctance
