Election Commission Seeks Additional Lists of Women from PML-N for Reserve Seats

Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has requested additional lists of women candidates from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the allocation of nine more National Assembly reserve seats. The move comes after the initial priority list provided by the PML-N was exhausted.

With the PML-N’s priority list depleted, the ECP has asked for the submission of nomination papers from nine additional women affiliated with the party. These papers will be accepted based on the new priority list submitted by the PML-N within the specified schedule.

The ECP has outlined a schedule for the allocation of extra seats to women, particularly those affiliated with parliamentary parties like the PML-N. This follows the ECP’s decision to reject the allocation of certain seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

The schedule includes the issuance of a public notice on Thursday, with nominated candidates from the PML-N required to submit their nomination papers to the Joint Election Commissioner of Punjab by March 9. The preliminary list of candidates is set for release on March 10, and scrutiny of nomination papers will be completed by March 12.

The period for lodging appeals related to the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers extends until March 14. The Appellate Tribunal is expected to announce its verdict on the appeals by March 16. The revised list will be published on March 18, and candidates will have until March 19 to withdraw their nomination papers.

The disclosure of the priority list for female members of the National Assembly from the PML-N for reserve seats is scheduled for March 20. The process ensures a transparent and structured approach to the allocation of reserve seats, aligning with the electoral procedures set by the ECP.
