Smuggled Phones Seized By Pakistan Customs at Islamabad and Lahore Airports

Pakistan Customs at Islamabad International Airport and Allam Iqbal Airport Lahore foiled an attempt to smuggle cell phones worth millions of rupees, on Tuesday.

Customs staff was informed that there was an attempt to sneak cell phones. A passenger who arrived at the Islamabad airport from Qatar was detained as they tightened up the screening procedure.

The spokesman claimed that when the police searched their bags, they found more than 73 smartphones, which were estimated to be valued at over Rs 10 million.
As a result of the passenger’s failure to provide tax information to the customs personnel, a case has been filed against him.

In a related incident, customs agents apprehended a passenger flying from the United States and thwarted an attempt to smuggle goods worth approximately Rs 8 million through Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

According to a deputy collector of Customs, a passenger flew from the United States on a private airline carrying Rs8 million in smuggled goods. “The passenger was carrying cosmetics, clothing, and other expensive items,” he said.

According to the official, there are 54 expensive perfumes, 126 cosmetic powders, over 12 lotions, 290 shirts and T-shirts, and other materials.
