According to the military’s media wing, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa stated that assistance from Pakistan’s “global partners” would be “vital for the rescue and rehabilitation” of flood victims.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday, the army chief met with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, National Security Adviser Jacob Sullivan, and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman during his visit to the US.
The sessions covered topics of shared interest, the state of regional security, and bilateral collaboration in a variety of domains, according to the ISPR.
General Bajwa thanked the US government representatives for their assistance with flood relief in Pakistan.
Both parties acknowledged that Pakistan and the US had a long history of bilateral cooperation and that both nations will keep working to strengthen their economic and commercial connections in addition to exploring investment opportunities.
The statement added that General Bajwa extended his deepest condolences for the deaths and damage caused by Hurricane Ian in the US state of Florida. According to the statement, Pakistan completely understands the suffering and loss experienced by families since the nation is already suffering from the severe effects of climate change.
Statement Added: “Both sides had convergence on major international issues including Afghanistan and need for cooperation to avoid humanitarian crisis and improve peace and stability in the region,”
Austin spoke with the army chief, according to a readout from the US Department of Defense “during the 75th anniversary of relations between the United States and Pakistan”.
“This long-standing partnership continues today with discussions focused on opportunities to address key mutual defense interests,” said the readout.
As he started the second part of his US visit yesterday, General Bajwa had these scheduled meetings with top Biden administration officials.
The army leader met with UN representatives in New York after his arrival in the US on September 30.
According to diplomatic sources, General Bajwa is leading a delegation that will remain in the US for a further few days. They called the visit significant and a sign of the two countries’ “strong relations.”
