Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari strongly criticized the judiciary, attributing the current political crisis in Pakistan to a recent court decision that removed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s bat symbol.
Speaking to the National Assembly, Bilawal argued that the judiciary’s actions are a major factor behind the country’s ongoing political turmoil. He accused the judiciary of persistent interference in politics and suggested that this interference has had far-reaching consequences.
Bilawal reflected on his party’s historical battles for justice, particularly in the cases of his grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and his mother, Benazir Bhutto. He lamented the lack of fairness in the trials they faced and expressed disappointment over the delays in justice for ordinary citizens. Bilawal noted that it was only this year that his grandfather received justice posthumously, underscoring the long-standing issues with the judicial system.
In his address, Bilawal also criticized the court’s decision to strip the PTI of its bat symbol, which followed allegations of rigged intra-party elections. He emphasized that the verdict was not issued by him or his government but by the judiciary. Bilawal claimed that this decision effectively revived the PTI, giving the party a significant advantage in the lead-up to the February 8 general elections. He argued that the ruling had political implications that benefited the PTI at a crucial time, further fueling his criticism of the judiciary’s role in Pakistan’s political landscape.
