Balochistan Chief minister and Opposition fail to reach agreement on Caretaker CM

ISLAMABAD: As consultations for the selection of the caretaker chief minister of Balochistan reach their final stage, Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Opposition leader Malik Sikandar engaged in discussions. However, a conclusive decision on the appointment could not be reached during their meeting.

In the event that a consensus is not achieved today regarding the caretaker chief minister’s nomination, the matter will be referred to the Parliamentary Committee.

Insiders familiar with the proceedings indicated that the appointment of the Caretaker Balochistan CM remains pending. Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo and Opposition Leader Malik Sikander Advocate convened in Islamabad to deliberate on potential candidates for the role.

Further consultations are scheduled for Tuesday, involving both the chief minister and the opposition leader, as they work towards establishing the caretaker administration.

Proposed nominees for the position include former National Assembly member Usman Badini, suggested by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and Hamal Kalmati, put forth by the Balochistan National Party (BNP).

The competition for the caretaker chief minister role features contenders such as BAP senator Kauda Babar, PPP leader Mir Ali Hassan Zehri, former bureaucrat Shabbir Mengal, Pakistani ambassador to Sudan Mir Behrooz Riki, Naseer Bizenjo, and Ijaz Sanjrani, the brother of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani. Additionally, Ali Mardan Domki, Jamal Raisani, and former provincial minister Prince Ahmad Ahmadzai are reportedly being considered.

Should a consensus on the interim CM’s nomination fail to materialize by tomorrow, the matter will be referred to the parliamentary committee. The committee is expected to finalize the selection within three days, reaching a decision in two days’ time.
