Federal Minister for Investment Board, Communications, and Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan recently chaired a significant meeting with the Focal Group of Communication, focusing on revitalizing the Pakistan Postal Service and enhancing its financial management. Addressing the long-standing challenges faced by Pakistan Post, he emphasized the urgent need to reform the institution by reducing operational inefficiencies and cutting reliance on government funds.
To increase revenue streams, Minister Khan proposed an innovative approach: setting up NADRA and passport service counters at general stores and pharmacies across the country. This move, he noted, would not only make essential government services more accessible to the public but also provide a valuable source of additional income for Pakistan Post. He expressed confidence that this initiative could significantly boost accessibility for citizens, while providing a fresh revenue channel for the postal service.
Minister Khan underscored the importance of prompt action, instructing officials to devise a comprehensive financial plan for Pakistan Post within the next week. He emphasized the need to address inefficiencies within the institution, warning that Pakistan Post could not continue to operate sustainably with high costs and minimal revenue. As part of the restructuring efforts, he called for the elimination of vacant positions that add unnecessary expenses, which could be reallocated toward productive avenues.
The minister further directed senior officers to develop a clear, cohesive policy framework designed to modernize Pakistan Post’s services to better align with contemporary postal needs. He urged all staff members to commit to the proposed changes with diligence and resolve, stressing the need to overcome complacency and work proactively to secure the future of Pakistan Post. “We must abandon complacency and work day and night to save Pakistan Post,” he stated firmly.
Additionally, the Federal Secretary of Communications has been tasked with presenting a detailed report within a week, outlining financial targets and proposed operational improvements, further underscoring the government’s commitment to revitalizing this essential public service.
