ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has shortlisted 16 individuals for the first round of appointments to the federal cabinet.
The new cabinet members are expected to take the oath of office in the coming few days.
Insiders have disclosed that the caretaker federal cabinet will include retired police officer, now columnist Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema, industrialist Gohar Ejaz, veteran civil servant Shoaib Suddle, and Senator Sarfaraz Bugti.
Furthermore, Mohammad Ali is slated to assume the energy ministry portfolio, while cricketer Shahid Afridi will be appointed as the federal minister in charge of inter-provincial coordination.
Sources have indicated that Dr. Waqar Masood’s name is under consideration for the position of caretaker finance minister.
This development coincides with reports that interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has intensified the consultation process for selecting individuals for the interim cabinet.
According to sources, the caretaker prime minister has opted for a more compact cabinet and is personally reviewing the profiles of all potential candidates.
