ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has called for a reset of Pakistan’s administrative system, saying some government departments and institutions have become obstacles to effective performance.
Speaking to members of the business community in Lahore on Friday, Naqvi urged businesses to support government efforts to reform the system. He said federal institutions regularly receive complaints and that authorities try to address problems whenever possible.
The minister said meaningful reforms would require support from the business community, adding that several measures had already been implemented.
Naqvi also discussed Iran’s economic development, highlighting the country’s ability to expand domestic manufacturing despite decades of international sanctions. He said Pakistan could learn from Iran’s experience by increasing local production and reducing dependence on imports.
He acknowledged the importance of export-led growth for Pakistan’s economic development but stressed that strengthening domestic manufacturing should also remain a priority.
The interior minister encouraged business leaders to submit proposals aimed at increasing exports and reducing imports.
Naqvi said Iran had developed industries capable of producing a wide range of products domestically despite prolonged sanctions. He argued that Pakistan could achieve greater economic progress by adopting similar approaches and improving the functioning of its administrative system.
His remarks revived his earlier call for a broader “system reset” and came amid his continued advocacy for administrative reforms.
