LAHORE: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has issued notices to 741 people in Punjab suspected of unlawfully holding Pakistani identity cards.
According to Nadra officials, the authority’s regional headquarters released an initial list containing the names of the suspected CNIC holders. The list includes individuals from Jhelum district and several surrounding tehsils.
Suspected CNIC Holders Ordered to Appear
Nadra has directed all individuals named in the list to appear at their respective Nadra zonal offices within 15 days. They must also bring relevant documents to verify their identity and legal status.
Officials warned that Nadra will block the identity cards of people who fail to appear within the specified period. Furthermore, authorities said they may take action against the suspected individuals and their family members.
The notices form part of a broader crackdown against fake, fraudulent and unlawfully obtained identity documents. Nadra has been reviewing records to identify individuals who may have obtained Pakistani CNICs without meeting legal requirements.
**Nadra Expands Crackdown on Fake Documents**
The latest review has also uncovered cases involving Afghan refugees who allegedly obtained Pakistani identity cards unlawfully. Authorities are examining such cases to determine how the documents were issued and whether any irregularities occurred during the registration process.
Nadra officials said the verification process aims to protect the integrity of Pakistan’s national identity database. Moreover, the authority has urged individuals who receive notices to cooperate with officials and submit complete documentation within the prescribed deadline.
The latest action covers 741 suspected CNIC holders in Punjab. However, Nadra is expected to continue reviewing identity records as part of its efforts to identify fraudulent registrations and strengthen the national documentation system.
Authorities have warned that failure to comply with verification notices could result in identity card blocking and further legal action.
