The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has formed a special prosecution team to handle appeals in the ongoing £190 million case, a matter of significant national and political interest.
According to official sources, the anti-corruption watchdog has appointed five prosecutors to represent the bureau during court proceedings. The decision was made following a recommendation from the Prosecutor General, which was subsequently approved by the NAB Chairman.
Senior prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar has been appointed as the head of the prosecution team. He will play a leading role in assisting the court throughout the hearings. The legal panel also comprises Irfan Ahmed, Sohail Arif, Rafi Maqsood, and Yasir Saleem Rana, who will work collectively to present NAB’s position and challenge the appeals submitted by the former chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his spouse, Bushra Bibi.
The appeals stem from an investigation involving the alleged misappropriation of £190 million, a sum that was originally repatriated to Pakistan through a settlement with the UK’s National Crime Agency. The case has drawn considerable attention due to the involvement of high-profile political figures and the broader implications for accountability and governance.
The NAB’s decision to field an experienced legal team signals its intent to vigorously contest the appeals and pursue the matter in accordance with the law. Officials close to the development stated that the formation of the team is part of NAB’s broader strategy to strengthen its legal position in complex and politically sensitive cases.
The prosecution is expected to present detailed arguments in upcoming hearings, which will be closely monitored by legal experts, political analysts, and the public alike.
This latest development comes amid heightened judicial scrutiny and growing public interest in the outcomes of major corruption cases involving political elites in Pakistan.
