NAB issues closure order under National Accountability (Amendment) Act, 2022 for Aleem Khan’s unapproved society, but assets inquiry remains open.
ISLAMABAD: Under a new law, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has concluded its investigation into the alleged encroachment by the housing society of Aleem Khan, the President of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
The executive board of NAB has revealed that they issued the closure order for the politician’s investigation in accordance with Section 31-B (1) of the National Accountability (Amendment) Act, 2022.

During the probe, the anti-corruption authority contended that the project allegedly lacked official approval to transform agricultural land into an urban settlement.
However, the anti-graft body has not closed its inquiry into the assets beyond means case, and Aleem remains under investigation.
The IPP leader, previously associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested during an inquiry into the assets beyond means case in February 2019 while serving as a provincial minister in the PTI-led government.
Following his arrest, the politician chose to resign from his ministry. At the time, Aleem had won the 2018 general elections from PP-158 (Lahore-XV) and served as Punjab’s senior minister for local government and community development, planning, and development.
Then-Prime Minister Imran Khan had appointed Aleem to lead the party’s endeavors in achieving the 100-day agenda.
However, differences arose between him and Khan, leading to his decision to part ways with the PTI chief.
In June of this year, Jahangir Khan Tareen, the founder of the Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), publicly announced the appointment of Aleem Khan as the president of his newly formed party. The new party has attracted many Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) deserters.
