Naan prices have increased by Rs. 5 across Lahore, raising the cost of a popular staple for residents. The revised rate sets the price of a single naan at Rs. 35, according to the announcement by the local Naanbai Association.
Association president Aftab Gill attributed the increase to rising flour prices and shortages of piped gas. He said tandoor operators have been forced to use expensive liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to keep their businesses running.
Flour and Gas Costs Drive Price Increase
Gill explained that the price of an 80-kilogram sack of fine flour, commonly known as maida, had increased by Rs. 3,000. The higher cost has added pressure on tandoor owners, who rely on flour and fuel to prepare naan daily.
Meanwhile, gas load-shedding has increased operating expenses because many businesses must purchase LPG to maintain production. The association says these rising costs have made it difficult for vendors to continue selling naan at previous rates.
However, the association clarified that prices for roti and sesame-topped naan, including khamiri and roghni varieties, have not changed. Plain roti remains priced at Rs. 20, while naan and sesame-topped flatbreads are available for Rs. 35 each.
Consumers Face Higher Food Expenses
The increase is likely to affect households that regularly purchase naan from neighbourhood tandoors. Even modest price changes can add to daily food expenses, particularly for families buying several pieces for each meal.
Furthermore, the latest adjustment highlights continuing concerns about the affordability of essential food items in Lahore. Flour prices and fuel shortages remain key challenges for tandoor operators, while consumers must manage the impact on household budgets.
The association has linked the revised naan rate to higher production costs. Residents will be watching for further changes as flour and fuel prices continue to influence the local market.
