The Muttahida Nanbai Association has announced an increase in the prices of naan and khameeri roti by Rs5 in Lahore. According to details shared on Thursday, the association’s president stated that the new prices for both naan and khameeri roti have been set at Rs30 each. The decision comes amid rising costs of fine flour, which have surged from Rs4,500 to Rs5,000 per sack.
Explaining the price adjustment, the association said that the hike was inevitable due to the increasing cost of production. It further clarified that if their demands were accepted, naan and khameeri roti could be sold for Rs25 per piece instead of Rs30.
The Punjab government, however, has distanced itself from the development, saying it has no connection with the rise in the price of fine flour sacks. Officials stated that plain roti continues to be sold at the government-approved rate of Rs14.
Meanwhile, tandoor owners have expressed concern over the widening gap between production costs and the official prices set by the government. They argue that the rising cost of flour, gas, and other essentials has made it increasingly difficult to sustain operations at the previous rates.
Consumers, on the other hand, have voiced frustration over the frequent increase in prices of basic food items, which continue to add pressure on household budgets already strained by inflation.
The recent hike comes as part of a broader trend of rising food prices across the province, as inflation and supply chain disruptions continue to impact both producers and consumers.
