Police and rescue teams recovered four decomposed bodies from a deep ditch along Karachi’s Mai Kolachi Road late Friday night, triggering a wide-ranging investigation. The bodies were discovered in a bush-covered ditch on the jungle side of the road within the jurisdiction of the Docks police station.
According to South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza, authorities were alerted after a scavenger reported a foul smell and the presence of bodies in the area. Police immediately reached the site and secured the location before recovery operations began.
Initial examination revealed that the bodies were approximately 10 to 15 days old and had significantly decomposed. Two of the deceased were identified as male, while the remaining two were female. An Edhi Foundation spokesperson stated that one of the victims appeared to be a young boy, further deepening the gravity of the case.
After recovery, the bodies were transported to a hospital to complete legal and medico-legal formalities. Police officials stated that investigators are examining the case from all possible angles, including identification of the victims and determining the cause of death. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether foul play was involved.
The discovery has raised concerns about public safety, especially given the isolated nature of the area where the bodies were found. Mai Kolachi Road, despite being a major thoroughfare, has stretches surrounded by bushes and undeveloped land, which can become vulnerable spots for criminal activity.
The incident comes days after another disturbing discovery in Karachi. Earlier this week, police recovered the body of a University of Karachi employee from Safoora Town. The victim’s body was found stuffed inside a gunny bag at a deserted location.
Police officials stated that the victim appeared to have been bludgeoned to death. Further investigation revealed that he worked at the H.E.J. Research Institute at the University of Karachi. He had previously lived in the university’s staff town before recently moving to Sachal Goth.
Law enforcement agencies are now working to determine whether the two cases are connected or represent separate criminal incidents. Officials stressed that forensic analysis and identification efforts will play a critical role in advancing the investigations.
Police have urged citizens to report any information that could help identify the victims or clarify the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Investigators say the coming days will be crucial in uncovering the truth behind these disturbing discoveries.
