Several Facebook posts alleged that unmarried men were prohibited from entering Murree ahead of Eid holidays. The claims quickly gained attention online, raising concerns among tourists planning to visit the popular destination. However, official statements and government notifications clarify that no such citywide ban exists.
Officials Clarify Scope of Section 144
According to local authorities, Section 144 has been enforced to manage crowds and improve the experience for families visiting Murree during the holiday season. Under the temporary restrictions, only families are permitted to enter the vicinity of Mall Road until May 31.
Kamran Saghir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Murree, confirmed that bachelors are not barred from visiting the city. Instead, the restriction only affects access to Mall Road. He explained that visitors traveling alone or in groups of men may still enter and move freely throughout other areas of Murree.
Notification Supports Family-Focused Measures
Furthermore, the official notification shared by the Deputy Commissioner Murree’s office states that district police recommended limiting Mall Road access to families. Authorities introduced the measure to facilitate tourism, reduce overcrowding, and ensure a comfortable environment for visitors during the busy season.
As a result, tourists should note that Murree tourism remains open to all visitors. The Murree restriction only applies to Mall Road, where authorities have temporarily limited entry under Section 144.
The verdict is that the claim is misleading. There is no ban on bachelors entering Murree. Authorities have only restricted access to Mall Road for non-family visitors until May 31.
