The Murree district administration has introduced a comprehensive winter safety plan to protect tourists during the upcoming snowfall season. The initiative involves the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Rescue 1122.
Named Mission Safe Winter, the campaign aims to prevent accidents and ensure smooth traffic movement. Authorities activated the plan following the first snowfall in the Galiyat region.
The official winter tourism season will run from December 15 to February 15. Meanwhile, officials have prepared emergency arrangements across Murree and surrounding tourist routes.
Authorities Establish Tourist Facilitation Centres
Under the new plan, authorities have established 19 tourist facilitation centres across Murree, Galiyat and connecting routes. These centres will provide emergency assistance and guidance to visitors during difficult weather conditions.
Furthermore, authorities will monitor roads and entry points through 181 high-tech Safe City cameras. Thermal drones and a special Pakistan Army contingent will also support round-the-clock surveillance.
The Health Department has directed hospitals to maintain 24-hour availability of doctors and medicines. Additionally, the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) will monitor hotels and petrol stations against overcharging.
Officials will also enforce standardised food prices and transport fares to protect tourists. These measures aim to prevent profiteering during the busy winter tourism season.
Snow-Clearing Machinery and Rescue Services Deployed
Meanwhile, authorities have positioned more than 20 modern snow-clearing vehicles, cranes and loaders at important locations. These machines will help keep roads accessible during heavy snowfall.
New Rescue 1122 stations have also become operational to strengthen emergency response services. Moreover, officials have proposed an air ambulance strip along Murree Expressway for serious emergencies.
The administration aims to coordinate all departments throughout the winter season. Consequently, these arrangements will help protect visitors and improve emergency response during snowfall.
