A dense fog-induced collision involving dozens of vehicles occurred on Motorway M2 near Kallar Kahar district in Punjab on Saturday. Despite the low to non-visibility conditions, fortunately, no human casualties were reported in the aftermath.
Eyewitnesses attributed the collision to the challenging visibility caused by the dense fog. In response to the hazardous conditions, a spokesperson for the Motorway Police announced the closure of the Chakwal Motorway for all traffic from Balkasar village to Lilla city.
This precautionary measure aimed to mitigate potential risks and prioritize the safety of motorists navigating through the adverse weather. Simultaneously, news agency APP reported a more severe collision involving a car and a bus, sparking concerns of a major disaster.
The impact caused the car to catch fire, but the timely intervention of the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) proved crucial in preventing any loss of life. NH&MP officials swiftly responded to the scene, launching a rescue operation to manage the aftermath of the collision.
Amid the rescue efforts, six additional vehicles experienced minor fender-benders due to a road slip triggered by the primary collision. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in these subsequent incidents.
The situation was compounded by heavy fog that descended upon the motorway, posing further challenges for commuters.
The decision to close a section of the motorway underscored the need to prioritize safety in the face of adverse weather conditions.
Authorities and emergency responders remain actively engaged in managing the aftermath of the collisions and ensuring the well-being of those affected by the fog-induced incidents.
