A significant joint operation conducted by security forces in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of a large cache of weapons.
According to a statement issued by the Bannu police, the operation was launched following intelligence reports about the presence of suspicious individuals in the Barganto and Kam Chashmi areas, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Domel police station.
The coordinated operation was launched on the instructions of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan and led by District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas Kalachi. Personnel from the police force, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Quick Response Force (QRF), Pakistan Army, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), and other law enforcement units participated in the effort. Senior officers including Bannu Brigade Commander Brigadier Naveed Ahmed, SP CTD Fazal Wahid, SP Investigation Sajid Mumtaz, SP Rural Mahmood Nawaz, SDPOs, SHOs, and Ladies Police were actively involved.
Modern surveillance tools, including drone cameras, were employed to search suspected locations and houses marked for harboring drug dealers, proclaimed offenders, and suspected terrorists.
Authorities reported that 40 individuals were taken into custody during the operation and moved to an undisclosed location for further investigation. A substantial quantity of firearms and ammunition was also confiscated.
DPO Saleem Abbas Kalachi emphasized the objective of the mission: “These joint efforts aim to eliminate crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism from the region, creating a secure environment for the people of Bannu. Such operations will continue to ensure long-term peace and safety.”
RPO Sajjad Khan praised the security teams for their discipline and professionalism. He noted, “This successful operation reflects our dedication to dismantling criminal networks and restoring public confidence in law enforcement. We remain resolute in our commitment to maintain peace in the region.”
Separately, on Friday, another operation was carried out in the Miryan area of Bannu. Acting on DPO Kalachi’s directives, a police team led by Miryan SHO Anwar Khattak and Additional SHO Zaman Shah Khan raided a suspected hideout in a rural locality. A wanted individual identified as Rafiullah was arrested.
Officials revealed that Rafiullah had been on the run since 2009 and was involved in multiple cases of murder, attempted murder, and terrorism. He was accused of killing eight people and injuring six others in separate incidents. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him under applicable laws.
