Multan’s historic Municipal Public Library has reopened following restoration work, bringing a renewed cultural and educational space to the city. The restored facility includes a modern library café designed to encourage reading, research and social interaction among residents, students and visitors.
The reopening marks an important step in preserving Multan’s architectural heritage while improving access to educational resources. Moreover, officials aim to attract younger readers and provide writers, researchers and academics with a comfortable environment for intellectual activities.
Library Restoration Preserves Multan’s Cultural Heritage
The inauguration ceremony brought together government officials, academics, writers and other prominent figures. The project preserves the building’s original architectural features while introducing facilities intended to make the library more welcoming and accessible.
Multan Commissioner Aamir Kareem Khan said the initiative emerged during a review of restoration work at Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh. He emphasised that restoring historic landmarks and promoting reading among younger generations remain important objectives.
Furthermore, authorities are developing additional recreational facilities within the historic complex, including a food court and craft bazaar. These projects aim to strengthen the area’s cultural appeal and provide more opportunities for public engagement.
New Facilities Support Students and Researchers
The restored library will include a dedicated section for competitive examination candidates, featuring approximately 700 books. More than 200 titles have already been donated, while officials are developing a digital catalogue to improve access to the collection.
Additionally, local writers and academics have contributed books to expand the library’s resources. Their donations will help provide readers with broader educational and literary material.
Industrialist Khawaja Jawad praised the restoration efforts for maintaining the building’s historic character. Meanwhile, officials highlighted the importance of preserving heritage sites for future generations.
The reopening offers Multan residents a renewed public space for learning and cultural exchange. With improved facilities and an expanding collection, the library aims to encourage reading habits and support students pursuing academic goals.
